Operation Capablanca Photos: www.zenita-city.at
"Operation Capablanca", a chess opera written by the Viennese artist Zenita Komad, had its first outing last thursday, September 1, at the Kunsthalle Wien (Vienna Contemporary Art Center). The opera which is set around a game won by Capablanca against Herman Steiner in 1933 has been performed on her installation consisting of a giant chess board and 32 sculpture pieces. Coinciding with Komad´s art project was a GM tournament (average rating 2443). 17 year old Arik Braun from Germany claimed first prize and his first GM result.
