Notes by Boris Schipkov

1. Nf3 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nc3 d5 4. Qa4+ Bd7 5. Qb3 dxc4 6. Qxc4 a6 7. d4 b5 8. Qd3
A novelty. In the game Van Wely, L - Svidler, P, Gawlikowski mem, Warsaw 1999 Black obtained a small advantage after 8. Qb3 Be6 9. Qc2 c5 10. dxc5 Bg7 11. g3 (11. e4 Nc6 12. Be2) 11...Nc6 12. Bg2 (12. a3) 12...Nb4 13. Qd1 Qxd1+ 14. Kxd1 O-O (14...Rc8) 15. Bd2 Rac8 16. Nd4 (16. Nxb5 axb5 17. Bxb4 Ne4) 16...Ng4 17. Nxe6 Nxf2+ 18. Kc1 fxe6 19. Rf1 Rxc5.
8...Bg7 9. Bf4
Also possible is 9.e4.
9...O-O 10. Rc1 c5 11. dxc5 b4 12. Nd1 Nc6 13. Nd4?!
Interesting is 13. Ne5.

13...Qa5!
Black seizes the initiative.
14. Nb3 Qa4 15. e4 Be6 16. Qc2?!
More precise is 16. Qb1 Nh5 (16...Rfd8 17. Be2) 17. Be3.
16...Rfd8!
Black has a big lead in development. Weaker is 16... Qxa2?! 17. Bc4.

17. Bg3?!
Better is 17. Bc4 Nh5 18. g3 Bxc4 19. Qxc4 Rac8.
17...Ng4!
Now Black has a clear edge.
18. Qb1 Bh6 19. Rc2
Or 19. f4 Bxb3 20. axb3 Qxb3 21. Be2 Ne3 22. Kf2 e5! and Black gets a strong attack.
19...Na5!

20. f4
If 20. Nxa5 then 20...Bxa2 21. b3 Bxb1 22. bxa4 Bxc2 winning.
20...Nxb3 21. axb3 Bxb3 22. Rc1 Qd7!
White resigned. 0-1
