The review of chess events and sites for FEBRUARY, 2001

There were many interesting and thrilling competitions in FEBRUARY.
The Bermuda Elbow Beach Club Grandmasters Tournaments took place January 19th-29th.
Bermuda A, category XIII (2566) - 1. Bartlomiej Macieja - 7 from 10 scores; 2. Giovanni Vescovi - 6.5; 3-4. Alexander Shabalov and Hannes Stefansson - 5; 5. Alik Gershon - 3.5; 6. Alexandre Lesiege - 3.
Bermuda B, category IX (2454), Round Robin, 12 participants - 1. Bojan Vuckovic - 8; 2-3. Fabian Doettling and Gregory Shahade - 7, etc.
The Bermuda Open took place 1st-5th February 2001.
Swiss, 5 rounds, 61 participants. 1. Hannes Stefansson - 4.5, etc.

The "Governador Mário Covas Júnior" took place in Brazil January 29th - February 8th 2001.
Round Robin, 12 participants, category VIII (2442).

The "Radisson SAS Challenge Match" was played in Bergen (Norway) 9th February between GM Alexei Shirov and the leading Norwegian player GM Simen Agdestein. There were 4 rapid games with 15 minutes per player.

Bundesliga Rounds 8-9
Lübeck beat Solingen 4,5-3,5 (Shirov-Kasimdzhanov 1-0 and Nunn-Chandler 1-0). Porz won against Castrup with 5,5-2,5 and remains second, one point beyond Lübeck. So the Championship will decide in Hamburg
10th/11th of March when the two remaining Giants Lübeck and Porz meet each
other.
