The Annual World Open 2007 took place June 30th-July 4th in USA.
1-9. Hikaru Nakamura, Sandipan Chanda, Leonid Yudasin, Evgeny Najer, Alexander Shabalov, Alexander Stripunsky, Victor Mikhalevski, Varuzhan Akobian, Julio Becerra - 6.5 from 9.
The title was won by Akobian who defeated Stripunsky in the Armageddon Blitz playoff game.

Veselin Topalov - Rustam Kasimdzhanov 2.5-1.5 (In the game 2 Rustam could almost win with a knight sacrifice 22.Nxd6! Nxd6 23.e5 Nf7 24.Bxc5 in the King's Indian Saemisch or Modern Benoni, White has a clear edge after 24...Nxe5 25.fxe5 Rxe5 26.Bc4 Qc8 27.Qb4 a5 28.Qa3. B: 1. Ekaterina Kharashuta - 8.5/10; 2. Vasilij Malyshev - 6.5; 3-4. Vladimir Permiakov; Anton Botvinkov - 6.

About the result of the game Vekshenkov-Verzhansky. Alexander Verzhansky offered a draw on move 12. Soon afterwards the mobile of IM Nikolai Vekshenkov began to ring. Arbiters gave a half point to Verzhansky and zero to Vekshenkov.
However, probably the arbiters made a mistake, they could give a full point to Verzhansky.
